International Student Scientific Conference "Word in Language, Speech, Text"

On May 21 and 22 the Department of Philology held an International Student Scientific Conference "Word in Language, Speech, and Text". This was the 5th conference in the international format, organized by the Chair of General and Russian Linguistics. It is significant that the conference was held on the eve of important dates for the philological community: May 24 is the Day of St. Cyril and Methodius (the secular name of the holiday is the Day of Slavic Script and Culture), and May 25 is the Day of Philologist.

The conference program consisted of 110 reports. Higher education institutions of Belarus (Brest State A.S. Pushkin University, BrSTU, MSLU, Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, VSU named P.M. Masherov, GrSU named after Yanka Kupala), Russia (Smolensk State University, Tula State University named after L.N. Tolstoy), Ukraine (Sumy State University), Bulgaria (Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen), and Slovakia (Komensky University) were represented.

Participants of the plenary session heard the reports of students. A discussion took place, and questions were addressed to the speakers. There was a fruitful and interesting conversation about current problems of philological science.

During the conference opening ceremony the prizes were awarded to the winners of the Russian Language Olympiad for Brest region students "Steps into Linguistics".
