The International Round Table "The Great Victory achieved by Unity" is being held at BrSU
On the eve of the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, the International Round Table "The Great Victory achieved by Unity" is being held at Brest State A.S. Pushkin University. It is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The event brought together representatives of different nationalities – descendants of those who gave their lives in the name of a peaceful sky.
The round table was opened by the rector of BrSU Yury Petrovich Holubeu. "The theme of the Great Patriotic War is always relevant for the university, the city, the region, the country, and the entire post-Soviet space. Our task is to conduct in-depth research on the study of various aspects of those events. The scientists of our university have great achievements in this field. This helps us to preserve historical memory together, counteract the distortion of history and pass memory from generation to generation," said the rector.
Alexander Alexandrovich Korkotadze, member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, director of the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, believes that the main task today is to convey the truth about the war. And the history department of our university plays a big role in this. Alexander Alexandrovich proposed to create joint projects for the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
The relevance of the topic of the round table was also noted by Maxim Albertovich Bogdasarov, Vice-rector for Research at BrSU. "New facts will be discovered and rethought, new research methods will appear," he said.
Experts from BrSU, the Baltic Federal University named after I. Kant (Kaliningrad, Russia), the State University of Humanities and Technology (Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Russia), Lipetsk State Pedagogical University named after P.P. Semenov-Tianshansky (Russia), St. Petersburg State University (Russia), Volgograd State University (Russia), Tajik Pedagogical Institute in Rasht district, Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov, Brest State Technical University, the State Archive of the Brest region are sharing their research results at the round table. They discuss the events of the Great Patriotic War as a tool of patriotic education, the memorialization of war victims, the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1941-1945, the contribution of the partisans to the Great Victory and the role of women in the partisan movement, the tragedy of certain areas and other issues. Evgeny Semenovich Rosenblat, Associate Professor of the Department of World History at BrSU, presents the monograph "The Holocaust in the western regions of Belarus in 1941-1944."
Events that raise issues of the value of peace and national pride in the glorious pages of our history allow us to contribute to the preservation of historical memory and get acquainted with the results of new research, memories of ancestors, as well as to replenish knowledge about the Great Patriotic War.
