XIX International oratorical competition "Ciceronius-2019"

On May 23-24 the XIX International oratorical competition "Ciceronius-2019" was held in the Academy of the Ministry of internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.

The contest was attended by young speakers from 25 universities, representatives of 10 countries in the world. The competition participants were the winners of regional, town and university selection stages.

There was a parade of participants on the first day of the competition: except students from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, we saw students from China, Japan, India, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Vietnam and South Africa studying in Belarus.

Vadim Devyatovsky, Deputy of the House of representatives of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Belarusian athletics Federation, former world champion, medallist of the Olympic games and the European hammer throw championship, became the guest of honour. The honoured master of sports of Belarus addressed the masters of words with a welcoming speech and wished the participants to develop their creative abilities.

The jury of the competition, which consisted of the teachers from 10 universities from Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, was attended by senior lecturer of the Department of General and Russian linguistics Larisa Gritsuk.

"Oh, sport, you are the world!"– this was the motto of the XIX International oratorical competition this year. The competition is dedicated to the II European games and healthy lifestyle.

The participants gave a prepared three-minute speech. There were speeches on various topics: sports and the world, eSports, sports and health, sports and morality, sports and law, sports in the life of Paralympians, doping in sports and others.

Foreign students spoke about the traditions and culture of their countries.

Our university was represented by Zaryana Yarmolyuk, a second-year student of the Department of Philology, and Elizaveta Lapytko, a third-year student of the Department of foreign languages.

Zaryana told that a woman in a big sport can stay a simple, sincere person, a pleasant companion, a charming woman, a wise person. All these words are about the Olympic champion, a graduate of our university, an Honorary citizen of Brest Yulia Nesterenko.

Elizabeth said in her speech that there are dozens, hundreds and even thousands of people living among us who every day do things worthy of gold medals. We don't even notice these people. Who are they? These are parents who raise their children. Elizabeth paid special attention to those parents whose children are chained to a wheelchair. Such parents are engaged in sports halls so that they have enough strength to carry their sick children in their arms. And this is also a kind of sport: "There are millions of people on the planet Earth with a difficult fate. They have to remake themselves every day to live, not to survive! For such people, sport is a life that allows them to make happy those who are dear to them", Elizabeth says.

On the second day of the competition, a pair debate was held. There were 12 finalists.

Our students became winners of the competition. And furthermore, Zaryana Yarmolyuk was awarded special prize by the Chairman of jury Vasily Leonidovich Golubev.

After awarding the participants, a festive concert was held in their honor.
