“Universityland”

There is somewhere in Brest, on the borderline, a students’ country proudly called Brest State A.S. Pushkin University.  That is how (“Universityland”) the celebratory concert programme devoted to the initiation of freshmen into students was named.  It was held on 13 September 2012 in the Center of Youth Creative Work.

“Each year our University family acquires new members. This year the number of BrSU students has increased by 1 832 people” – mentioned the first pro-rector Anna N. Sender in her welcoming speech addressed to the 1st year students.

The song “Me, you, he, she are altogether the whole country” performed by Ekaterina Punko (Faculty of Foreign Languages) can be rightly titled the motto of the event. And that is true indeed: a lot of gifted citizens live in the “Universityland”, which in fact cannot be found on any geographical maps. One can not only study here, but also take active part in extracurricular activities and develop creative abilities. The multi-media presentation shed light on the brightest moments of the traditional holidays of our University.

The hosts of the event Stas Getsold (Faculty of Philology) and Anna Kononovich (Faculty of Geography) acquainted the audience with the talented artists of our alma mater. With a storm of applause the audience greeted Svetlana Seraya (Faculty of Mathematics) and Tatyana Goroshko (Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy), as well as Yuliya Petrovich (Faculty of Law), dancers of the School of modern dances “One way”, Irina Kulbeba (graduate student of the Faculty of Geography). The duets Alesya Gapanovich (Faculty of Biology) and Sergey Polyachuk (Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy) and Ni Xiang and Viktoriya Kotsilo (both from the Faculty of Philology) made the event sound a bit lyric. The performance of the KVN team “Gorazdo” (Club of the Merry and Resourceful), which by the way celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, came as an excellent preventive treatment for autumn melancholy.

The 1st year students were quick to answer back in kind: the fact that people of considerable talent entered our University was reconfirmed once again by Victor Ivanyuk, the student of the Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogy.

No event comes off without guests: the pop dance group “Prestizh” (headed by A.Levchuk) and the vocal quartet “Ramonki” (City Culture Center) also presented their musical gifts.

The celebratory event came to an end, but the exciting journey of the 1st year students round “Universityland” has just begun. And in order to become its fully legitimate citizens, the 1st year students were to pronounce the solemn oath: “Away go hesitations and sorrow! I swear to be a student!”

We wish all the 1st year students to be always in good spirits, be patient and persistent in achieving their goals. We hope that student years will stay in your memory for good.
