Farewell to winter in the traditions of different peoples

The students of the Historical Faculty and the listeners of the pre-university educationhave organized and realized the holiday “Farewell to the winter in the traditions of Belarusian, Kazakhs, Turkmens and American peoples” on the 4th of March 2014 for the foreign citizens of the pre-university education.

All the nations love this holiday and the Slavs call it affectionately “chestnaya Maslenitsa”, “veselaya kasatochka”, “perepelochka”, “pereberucha”, “yasochka”.

The hosts, the students of the 1st course, of the specialization “History and Social Science Disciplines” Yana Prokopchuk, Kirill Gavrilenko and Kirill Denisik have acquainted the guests with the traditions of the celebration of Maslenitsa – an old Slavic custom of the farewell to the winter.

Foreign students, in turn, have told how people welcome the spring in their homeland. Adzhal Yzkulyeva and Nadira Haldyeva from Turkmenistan have prepared the presentation and a story about the celebration of Navruz-Bairam, which is celebrated in the day of the vernal equinox on the 21st March Aleksey Naumov, the representative of Kazakh people, have told, how the beginning of the year celebrated in Kazakhstan and Irina Hveshuk and Felicia Arnold have opened to us the secrets of the American carnival “Mardi Gra”.

At the end of the occasion all the present were treated. The holiday was not only intersecting but also very tasty.
