Dreams come true!

The grand opening of the 2nd block of the University hall of residence No 4, situated in Pushkinskaya Street, took place on 31 August 2012. 352 students are to move in the comfortable dwelling units of their “second home”.

The Chairman of Brest Regional Executive Committee K.A.Sumar, the Chairman of Brest City Executive Committee A.S.Palyshenkov and senior management of the joint stock company “Polesyezhilstroy”, as well as Mass Media representatives attended the event to share the joy of the new tenants.

The history of this hall of residence is rather complicated: the problem of financing has been resolved due to the direct address to the Head of the State. The hall of residence was included into the investment programme, and financed a bit later. That’s why satisfaction of both the students and university personnel can be easily understood – the life of students will become cosier and more comfortable.

The Rector of the University Mechyslau E. Chasnouski has informed the audience that this year Brest State A.S. Pushkin University can provide with accommodation more than 70% of students in need. Besides the opening of the 2nd block of the hall of residence No 4, the hall of residence No 1 will be re-opened in the middle of September after reconstruction lodging 360 students.

The celebratory part of the grand opening stayed in memory due to K.A.Sumar’s warm words addressed to the students, handing of the symbolic key by V.I.Trubko, the general director of the joint stock company “Polesyezhilstroy”, as well as due to the special present made by the Rector of the University: a beautiful ceramic cat was brought inside the building first as a symbol of good and welfare.

The celebratory part was followed by an excursion around the new hall of residence during which the guests agreed on the fact that such a “students’ house” could be only dreamt of; excited students, the 1st tenants of the new dwelling units, convinced them even more over a cup of tea.

The festive events ended with the round table conference with the University activists group. K.A.Sumar, A.S.Palyshenkov and M.E.Chasnouski discussed with the students urgent issues concerning prospects of young specialists’ employment in Brest region, students’ participation in region scientific projects, problems of students’ secondary employment both during the holidays and academic year, peculiarities of Brest development and much more.

At the end of the round table conference representatives of the University activists group asked K.A.Sumar to give the Head of the State the letter of gratitude from the students expressing thanks for the help in such a significant and noble action.
