The conference “Actual problems of Earth Sciences: study of cross-border regions” dedicated to the millennial anniversary of Brest was held at Brest State A. S. Pushkin University

On September 12-14, 2019, the IV International scientific-practical conference “Actual problems of Earth Sciences: study of cross-border regions” was held at the Department of Geography of Brest State A. S. Pushkin University, dedicated to the millennial anniversary of Brest. The conference was organized jointly with National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Institute of Nature Management and Brest State Technical University.

Participants and guests of the conference were welcomed by A. N. Sender – Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, rector of Brest State A. S. Pushkin University, A. V. Dragan – Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, rector of Brest State Technical University, S. A. Lysenko – Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Director of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Institute of Nature Management, M. V. Masloboev – Vice Chairman of the Brest Regional Committee of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

The conference began with a minute of silence in honor of A. K. Karabanov – an eminent scientist, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor, academician of NAS of Belarus, who left this life in August 2019. At the plenary meeting presentations were made by V. S. Khomich, G. A. Kamyshenko, S. A. Lysenko (National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Institute of Nature Management), I. V. Voitov (Belarusian State Technological University ), N. V. Mikhalchuk (The Polesie Agrarian Ecological Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus), A. P. Kolbas (Brest State A. S. Pushkin University), M. Stanchykite (Institute of Geology and Geography, Lithuania), A. A. Volchek (Brest State Technical University), A. L. Shevchenko (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev), Yu. A. Mazhaysky (All-Russian Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Land Reclamation named after A. N. Kostyakov), A. A. Sidorovich (Brest State A. S. Pushkin University), L. G. Rudenko (Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine).

On September 13, 2019, the conference continued with breakout sessions. In total, more than 200 scientists and specialists from Belarus, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Iran, and France took part in the conference.

The problem field of the conference covered geological, geographical and environmental studies of cross-border regions, including discussion of topical problems of regional geology and evolutionary geography; cross-border pollution of various components of nature (air, water, soil, etc.) and related problems; issues of medical geology and geography; natural resources management and environmental management of territories. At the conference presented their reports academician of the NAS of Belarus V. F. Loginov, academician of NAS of Ukraine L. G. Rudenko, as well as many authoritative scientists from both academic institutions and educational institutions and industrial organizations (more than 80 reports were made in total).

An excursion program was organized for the guests and participants of the conference, including a sightseeing tour of Brest, a visit to the Memorial Complex “Brest Hero-Fortress”, and the National Park “Belovezhskaya Pushcha”. As guides were students of the Department of Geography – Xenia Gromak, Anna Goroshko, Pavel Kozhemiachenko, Valeria Gospodareva and Anastasiya Derevo.
