Philip Jessup Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations, where law students prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case. This year, the issues concerning the right to water, the rights of refugees and migrants, the protection of the world cultural heritage and cultural values were discussed in the competition.

Since 2015 the administrator of the Belarusian National Qualifying Round has been represented by the International Law and Arbitration Association (BILA Association) in Belarus, Minsk. Among the judges there were well-known legal practitioners and professors from the United States of America, Great Britain, Estonia, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

Sergei Shukalo (Master’s Degree student), Victoria Shvab (the 5th year student), Alisa Grechina, Mikhail Savchuk and Artem Yurashevich (the 3rd year students) defended the honor of the Law Faculty of Brest State A.S. Pushkin University. Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs Olga Slivko represented the team coach.

The students of our university proved their right to be called the best regional team. According to the results of the competition the team of Brest State A.S. Pushkin University took the 3rd place after the teams of the Law Faculty of BSU (the 1st place) and the Faculty of International Relations of BSU (the 2nd place).
