Time-tested tradition: employees and students of BrSU took part in the clean-up marathon

On April 25 the administration, employees and students of Brest State A. S. Pushkin University voluntarily took part in the national subbotnik (community work day) dedicated to improvement of Brest.

Traditionally, in spring, the university administration and teachers changed the usual business style to the sports one, and pens and documents to the working equipment to clean up the territories near the educational buildings and halls of residence. Being armed with rakes, gloves, sacks and brooms, university students (volunteers, leaders of student self-government, activists of public associations of BrSU) voluntarily joined them. They are sure that the magic of beauty of the small motherland should be done by joint efforts. “Labor is the basis of our self-consciousness” – with this motto students began to take out trash, plant out flower beds and shrubs.

Special attention during the national subbotnik was traditionally paid to the places of military glory. Students of faculties of history, geography and biology voluntarily went to refine the Memorial Complex “Brest Hero-Fortress”.

For the employees and students of our university the clean-up marathon is the time-tested tradition. In its more than century-long history, the subbotnik has become the unifying event of different generations in the transformation of the native land.
