The Organizing Committee notes that the format of the world student competition has changed a lot: it is as close as possible to the format of the Olympic Games. For the first time in history, the student village is located on two cruise liners.

Student swimming competition provides an opportunity to compete for the Olympic license in Tokyo 2020.

The 2019 World Universiade is the thirtieth in a row. The first one was also held in Italy 60 years ago.
