Information for the incoming Erasmus+ Key Action 1 student credit mobility and staff mobility

General Information

Brest State A.S. Pushkin University founded in 1945, is the oldest HEI in the Brest Region (ab. 1.4 mln people). It is located in the centre of Brest, a student-friendly modern city (ab. 320,000) on the border with the European Union/Poland. The nearest international airports in Warsaw, Poland (180 km) and in Minsk, Belarus (360 km) are well connected with Brest by cheap train and bus services.

Ab. 8,000 is taught by 500+ staff. The University has 10 Faculties which offer 45 undergraduate, 20 master and 16 PhD programmes with many specializations. There are libraries, museums, 4 students’ dormitories, cafeterias, bars, a recreation Centre with fitness equipment and a swimming pool, a winter garden, 16 computer labs with the access to Internet on the university’s three campuses. Wi-Fi hot spots are available in the university’s buildings and dormitories.

Levels of mobility and duration

The eligible EU nationals may participate in the following levels of mobility:

  • Students (all cycles) 3–12 months
  • Teaching and administrative staff 5 days to 2 months

Additional requirements

The language of instruction at the University is Russian, with some courses taught in Belarusian. Those planning to do their undergraduate and Master studies are required to have the intermediate level (B2) of Russian; while doctoral students, and staff mobility scholars are preferred to have some Russian skills yet it isn’t a mandatory requirement. In case of doctoral students/candidates this is decided with their academic supervisors.

The English-speaking staff of the Department of International Affairs provides all the information to the prospective and selected candidates on the visa, accommodation issues, organization of studies/research activity, registration/residence permits, etc. as well as assists in the mobility students/staff every-day matters. The academic calendar

Fall Semester: September 1 – December 31, exams period runs through mid-January; winter vacation is from mid-January through the first week of February. Spring Semester: the first week of February through the end of May; exams period runs from early June through late June; summer vacation is in the months of July and August.

Research/teaching opportunities for the staff mobility scholars

The staff mobility scholars may enjoy the opportunity of teaching short lecture modules during their mobility periods. The themes of lectures to be delivered are to be agreed upon with the hosting Faculties/Departments prior to the start of mobility. If needed the professional simultaneous translation of the lectures from/into English, German, French, and Spanish will be provided. All the University’s research facilities are at full disposal of the staff mobility scholars.

Fees to be paid

Erasmus+ students are exempt from any tuition, examination, matriculation, library and Internet access fees. The costs of the text-books, teaching aides, photocopying and stationery (if any) can be covered out of the grant. The students and staff are responsible for their visa and insurance costs (health, accident, repatriation, civil liability).

Accommodation and living costs

Accommodation in the university’s dormitories (a well-furnished room), with a shared bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen/kitchen utensils, and a Wi-Fi Internet access is provided at 30 Euros/month. The city’s hotels (30-40 Euros/night), or rented one-, two-bedroom apartments (150–200 Euros/month) are other options. The minimum living costs for a single person in Brest are from 120-150 Euros/month.
